Columbus Arrives in the Americas
According to History Lessons (pg 6-12), there was conflict when Columbus arrived in the Americas. The helpfulness from the natives was met with slaughter and slavery from the Europeans. Columbus came looking for gold but came back with a new discovery. -

The French and Indian War Begins
Because of growing tensions between the French and the British, war broke out in the Ohio River Valley. In this war, most native sided with the French until end of the war. -
Sir Jeffery Amherst
At the time of the French and Indian war, Sir Jeffery Amherst is the governer of Virginia, although, he never actually went to Virginia and was just represented by deputies. -
The Battle of Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown ends after Lord Cornwallis surrenders, marking the last major battle of the American Revolution.

George Washington Inaugurated
George Washington is inaugurated, becoming the first president of the United States of America. -
Indian Removal Act
According to America Story of Us, because gold was found in Cherokee territory, the settlers wanted to move into the territory. So, Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act, relocated many tribes to Oklahoma on a terrible journey west called the trail of tears killing many natives. -
William Henry Harrison Dies
William Henry Harrison had the shortest presidency in US history, only being president for 31 days. He was stricken with pneumonia and died shortly after. He also was the first president to die in office. -
John Brown Kills 5
After being outraged by the sack of Lawerence, John Brown and seven others go outside of homes and take out and kill 5 people, only adding fuel to the fire. (History Alive!) -
13th Amendment Ratified
After the Confederate loss of the Civil War, the 13th Amendment was ratified, outlawing all slavery. -
Andrew Johnson Impeached
After being found guilty of crimes, Andrew Johnson was impeached by the US Congress. He wasn't removed from office however, because that vote lost by one vote. -
The Transcontinental Railroad is Finished
On May 10, 1869, the golden spike was driven into the track in Utah, marking the end to the decade-long project to make a railway across the United States. (America Story of Us) -
Chinese Exclusion Act
The Chinese Exclusion Act is the first federal action taken to limit immigration and is a prime example of Nativism. Nativism is seeing immigration as a threat: “taking jobs” and “lowering wages.” (Notes) -
Armistice Day
On November 11th, 1918 at 11:00, WWI ends with Germany surrender. This comes after all of Germany's major allies were defeated, like the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary. -

The Invasion of Normandy
After years of hard fighting, the Allies needed to end the stalemate in Europe. With Stalin pushing back against Nazi Germany in the east, a new front needed to be made. Enter DDay. The invasion would take place at Normandy, a beach in France. This led to the eventual downfall of the Nazis. -
Korean War Begins
June 25th, 1950, North Korean troops enter South Korea, starting a three year long war, that would ultimately end in a stalemate that lasts to this day. -
Ronald Reagan Leaves Office
Ronald Reagan leaves office, being the oldest president to serve before Donald Trump. He was 69. -
Obama Inaugurated
Barack Obama was inaugurated on January 20th, 2009 becoming the first African-American president. He left office January 20th, 2017. -
