    The Shamrock Summit is was a name given to meeting between Prime minister Brian Mulroneny and U.S. President Ronald Reagan. This was seen as a mending point between the countries contrasted to the Trudeau era.     Canadian Government Apologizes
    The government of Canada formally apologizes to the families of 22,000 japanese Canadians who were stripped of their property and interned during World War 2. The government acknowledged their wrongdoing in that time and gave compensations to surviving victims and their families. Each person was paid the equivalent of $17,325 today.     Canada was the first countries to condemn Iraq for invading their neigbouring country, Kuwait. Canada imposed sanctions on Iraq and froze any Iraqi assets in Canada.     Rwandan Genocide
    This was a genocide on the population of Tutsis in Rwanda by the Hutu. Canadian general, Romeo Daillaire, the head of the UN peacekeeping force was ordered to not intervene and the UN council vote to withdraw back 90% their forces. The Canadian and UN forces stayed in Rwanda but were outnumbered.The poor decision making of the UN council allowed 800,000. Rwandans to be slaughtered.     Canadian peacekeepers to Ethiopia and Eritrea
    Canadian peacekeepers were sent to Ethiopia and Eritea as part of the UN mission there. Canada sent a contingent of 450 soldiers. to monitor the terms of the peace treaty and ensure the 25 kilometre-wide temporary security zone that has been established between the two countries is maintained until a final border is agreed upon.     Copenhagen Accord
    Canada signs the Copenhagen Accord and agreed to reduce its GHG emissions by 17% from its 2005 levels by 2020. This was a successor to the Kyoto Protocol that ended in 2012. They had the same goals as the Kyoto Protocol, reducing the emissions of GHG. The picture is of our current prime minister Steven Harper at the Copenhagen summit.

    Open-sky Agreement with South Korea
    This agreement provides many benefits for both countries such as an An open and unlimited number of direct passenger and cargo flights between the two countries. This agreement helps the Canadian air industry increase its access to international markets which, in turn, benefits domestic businesses, shippers and travellers.
