The arrival of the Endevour
Captain James Cook and his crew left England to find new land to conquer in 1768 when he came across Australia (Terra Australis)
in April 29 1770.He arrived in Botany bay and called it Stingray bay. He first made contact with an aboriginal tribe called "Gweagle" in NSW Sydney. -
The Electorial system
Australia had its first election on the 31 of October 1840 when 600 people voted in the Adelaide city council. this election was to vote for a mayor of Adelaide.This was James Hurtle Fisher. -
Federation
It took 2 referendums for Australia to decide to be a federation. The commonwealth of Australia was proclaimed (made law) on the 1st of January, 1901 in centennial park, by Lord Hopetoun, the 1st Governor General of Australia. Thousands of Australians turned up to watch the opening of Federation Arches.(Lord Hopetoun opened the Federation Arches.) -
ANZAC Day
ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corp. On the 25th April 1915 the Australian and New Zealand army landed at Gallipoli (Turkey). This was the first time that both Australia and New Zealand fought together during war. Australian's remember all men and women that fought in wars on the anniversary. We also remember ANZAC to remind us of the friendships and mateships allies have during the bad times in war. -
Malcom Turnbull
Malcom Turnbull was elected Prime Minister on the 15th of September 2015 and recently was elected again on the 19 July 2016. The leader of the liberal party, Malcom Turnbull was sworn in by Sir Peter Cosgove (Australian Governor General ) to become the 29th Prime Mister of Australia . Malcom Turnbull was born on the 24th of October 1954 and took the leadership role from Tony Abbott who was Prime Mister at the time.
