  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles is the document that ended World War I between the Allied powers and Germany after five years of battle. Signing this treaty meant that Germany would pay the Allied powers for their troubles, loose previously owned territories, and decrease the size of their military. Ultimately this caused a lot of resentment, eventually leading Germany to initiate the second World War.
  • 19th amendment

    19th amendment
    The 19th amendment finally gave women the right vote in elections. The Seneca Falls Convention is seen as the first step in the Women's suffrage movement and was held in 1848. After decades of activists fighting, they finally accomplished their goal in 1920.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    The Great Depression began in October of 1929 when the stock market crashed. The economy experienced an all time low and got worse with events like the Dust Bowl. At one point, America's unemployment rate peaked to 25%. This devastation lasted 10 years.
  • 21st amendment

    21st amendment
    The 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment that was passed in 1917. People could finally drink alcohol legally again after 16 years.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941, Japan's navy surprise attacked the United States' naval base located in Hawaii. This attack managed to kill thousands of Americans and destroy American battleships and airplanes. This event is what caused the United States to enter World War II.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War lasted three years and was a fight between the northern half of Korea and the southern half. North Korea was on a mission to spread Communism through the entire country. The United States stepped in to support South Korea and stop the spread of communism. Unfortunately, the war concluded with the 38th parallel becoming a permanent division between North and South Korea.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    The Montgomery Bus Boycott sparked when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus. In response to her protest, she was arrested. Martin Luther King Jr. initiated a boycott to all city buses by all African Americans. After almost two years, the Supreme Court declared bus segregation unconstitutional.
  • JFK Assassination

    JFK Assassination
    After leaving the airport, President John F. Kennedy and his wife hopped into the back of a convertible to head to an event. While driving through Downtown Dallas, JFK was fatally shot by a man named Lee Harvey Oswald. Thousands of Americans visited JFK's body in Washington DC before he was officially laid to rest on November 25th, 1963. John F. Kennedy's vice president, Lyndon B. Johnson or LBJ, filled his place for the duration of his term.
  • Watergate Scandal

    Watergate Scandal
    While President Nixon was in office, a group of spies were caught trying to place listening devices in the Watergate building. It was found that these spies were sent by Nixon to gain insider information. Fear of getting impeached, Nixon resigned from office.
  • First American Woman in Space

    First American Woman in Space
    Sally Ride made history by becoming the first American woman to fly into space! Ride flew into space twice in her career, 1983 and 1984, both for a space shuttle mission. About 20 years later, Sally Ride was inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame for her contributions.
