    The Adams-Onis Treaty
    This is the treaty that defined the border between what was then the U.S. and Mexico. This will change after the Mexican-American War.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo
    This treaty was inplemented after the Mexican American war. It gave the U.S. the land on which is now Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and half of Colorado.
  • Border Patrol

    The border patrol was implemented around 1904. There were about 75 of them told to guard the American borders.
  • Mexican Revolution

    Mexican Revolution
    The Mexican Revolution started on this day. Mexico was trying to get away from the Spanish and it took a toll on the country. This led to some of the first refugees fleeing into the United States.

    This was one of the first acts that put limits on immigration. They made new requirements and authorty on immigration and made it more difficult for people to migrate. This was when the green card was now required.

    Arizona voters voted against bilingual classrooms and sped up the process of English immursion.

    The Minuteman Project
    The minuteman project is a volunteer prject where individuals can go and monitor the border themselves. They do not have to be government officials. This was a big step for eliminating illegal immigration across the U.S. Mexico border.
  • State of Emergency

    Governers of both Arizona and New Mexico initiated a state of emergency to free up funds to go to the counties around the border to fight against illegal immigration.
  • The Secure Border Initiative

    This was the beginning of the major work that the U.S. started putting into making sure the border was closed. The wall and fences were put up. There were cameras, radars and sensors activated as well.

    About 100,000 people marched together to protest the illegal immigration reform. This was one of the biggest push backs in immigration history. They were all in support of undocumented citizens becoming legal.

    This was a law put into effect requiring anyone and everyone crossing the border to have paperwork, visas and proof of citizenship. This made it a punishable crime to be in the U.S. without proof of your legal right to be there. Police can arrest or stop someone just because they may suspect they are an illegal alien.
