Historical Timeline of Special Education

  • Diane v. California State Board of Education

Diane v. California State Board of Education
Mexican students were considered retarded with invalid testing. Children should be tested in their own language. Diane wanted children to be able to get an education regardless of language. California BOE wanted to base test scores off of them not be able to read them. This being an unfair and unjust ruling on their behalf. Regardless of what language is spoken, each child should receive equal educational rights. Even if this means bringing in translators to help those children.

    Conclusion
Each of these cases I meant to help children and needs whether it be an impairment or disability or some other kind and educational need, there was somebody there to help them. These cases are historical because they are at the beginning of time. We have taken these cases and expanded on them to ever greater extent. Thus creating 504 plans or IDEA as well an IEP, ADA and the No Child Left Behind Act. If someone hadn't spoken when they did, who's to say where we or these children would be now.
