    Russia and Japan argued over some territories. They made an agreement over the territory. Over some time, Russia broke it. Japan attacked Russia at the Port Arthur, Manchuria. Russia lost the war and the Russian people started to revolt against the government.

    About 200,000 workers and their families went to the Czar’s winter palace in St. Petersburg. They wanted better working conditions, freedom and elected national legislature. Nicholas the second ordered his soldiers to fire on the crowd. More than 1,000 people were wounded and hundreds were killed. In the end, Nicholas promised more freedom in the country.

    The Duma was Russia’s first parliament. Leaders wanted Russia to become constitutional monarchy like Britain. Nicholas the second did not to share his power, so the Duma ended after 10 weeks.
