    In 1762 a book titled "Emilo of Education" was published by , Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He stated in his book that "The momentum for learning was provided by the growth of the person (nature) and that what the educator needed to do was to facilitate oppurtunities for learning." Rousseau proposed a pedagogy for each stage of life that correlates with specific developemental traits from ages birth to twenty five

  • Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi

    Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
    John Heinrich Pestalozzi was a follower of Rousseau and in 1805 he developed the 'Pestalozzi Method’ that stated that children should learn through activity and they should be free to pursue their own interests. This was called the Head, Heart, and Hands method where Pestalozzi believed that by stimulating children and arousing their instincts by stimulating their surroundings would thus influence their understanding of things.

    Friedrich Froebel
    Friedrich Froebel was a German educationlist who was the originater of the "Kindergarten System" in 1837. The new educational system focused on structured activity based learning. Froebel was a student of Pestalozzi and he famarilerized himself with the pedagios, which are the ideas concerning the play and playthings of the child. Froebel established the Play and Activity Center which was renamed to Kindergarten in 1840.
  • Susan Blow

    Susan Blow
    Susan Blow opened the first public kindergarten in 1873 at the Des Peras School in Carondelet. While visiting Germany Blow evaluated kindergarten schools that followed the teaching philosophy of Friedrich Froebel. Upon returning to America Blow sought the aid of school superintendent Dr. William Torrey Harris in order to open the first kindergarten class in America. Froebels philosophy of learning with objects through play were emphasized.

    National Association for The Education of Young Children
    In 1926 the non-profit organization the National Association of the Education of Young People (NAEYC) was founded by Patty Smith Hill that entailed conducting a study of the overlying structure of the educational system. The Natonal Association for Nursery Education (renamed NAEYC in 1964) consisted of a team of experts in the education field that composed the standards and methods acceptable for education.

    Head Start
    Head Start opened its doors on May 18 1965 to over 560,000 children from low-income famalies. In 1964 President Lyndon Johnson conveyed his plan to America to help end poverty by creating schools open to low priviliged famalies. In 1970 Head Start incoporated a policy into their manual requiring that parents be involved in policy making and program operations, thus bringing family involvement into the classrooms and school structure

    National Academy of Early Childhood Programs
    In 1985 the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs was established by NAEYC. The NAEYC now represents over 6,500 accredited based programs that all meet the intention of bettering the overlying foundation of the education system and its educators.   • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    On January 23, 2001 President George W.
