  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The war solidified Britain's hold on to continent. This was important becuase several European countries became involved. It changed the reltionship between the colonies and Britain, and left Britain in debt.
  • Albany Plan

    Albany Plan
    Benjamin Franklin proposed a plan uniting the colonies called the Albany Plan. It was rejected. This was important because latter on colonists began thinking of themselves as Americans united by their violence to British authority. Colonial leaders began to require political action.
  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution was a revolt which occurred between 1765 and 1783. The American Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies defeated the British in the American Revolutionary War. With the assistance of France, they won and gained independence from Great Britain and establishing the United States of America. This was important because it influenced political ideas and revolutions around the world.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    After the war King George III had to pay the debt. The Stamp Act imposed taxes on the colonists which raised Britain's revenue. This was important because it was approved by the parliament and it was the first law ever passed having to do with raising money. But the people did not like that.

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a confrontation in which British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston. This was important because it united the colonists against Britain, which would eventually lead to the Revolutionary War.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians dumped hundreds of chests of British Tea into the Boston Harbor. The protest was known as the Boston Tea party. This was important because then Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts. In the early 1770s you could tell the revolution was close.

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were laws passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for not being a part of the Tea Party protest in reaction to changes in taxation by the British to the detriment of colonial goods.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    The delegates imposed an ban on Great Britain. This was important becuase Britain then changed quickly and adopted stronger measures. Thia led to the first battle of the Revolutionary War.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    As British sent 700 soldiers to Concord to stop the colonies from building an army, they heard a shot fired as they were passing Lexington. This caused everyone to start shooting, the British lost and there were 73 killed, 174 wounded and 26 soldiers missing.
  • The 2nd Continental Congress

    The 2nd Continental Congress
    This congress assumed the powers of a central government. They voted for John Hancock as the president, voted to organize an army and navy and to issue money. They also made Goerge Washington commander of a organizing continental army. This was important becuase it served at the acting government of the colonies throughout the war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    After Lee's resolution the congress made a committee composed of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman to prepare a written declaration. The congress then approved Lee's resolution. The colonies had broken with Great Britain. The congress then focused on Jefferson's draft. Some passages were removed and some changes were made. This was important becuase then on July 4th the congress approved the final draft of thr Declaration of Independence.
