  • French and Indian War

    The war helped Britain's hold on the continent. This is important because it changed the relationship between the colonies and Britain, and left Britain in debt.
  • Albany plan

    The Albany Plan of Union was a plan to create a unified government for the Thirteen Colonies, suggested by Benjamin Franklin, then a senior leader, and a delegate from Pennsylvania. but the plan was rejected. This was important because later on colonists began thinking of themselves as americans united by their hostility to British authority. Colonial leaders began to take political action.
  • 2nd Congress

    2nd Congress
    The Second Continental Congress was the governing body of the American colonies. It was founded when the British failed to address the grievances of the First Continental Congress and to organize a Continental Army to fight. It made John Hancock the president, voted to organize an army and navy and to issue money. It also made George Washington commander of a organizing continetal army. This was important because it served at the acting government of the colonies throughout the war.

    The American Revolution was a time when the British colonists in America rebelled against the rule of Great Britain. There were many battles fought and the colonies gained their freedom and became the independent country of the United States. The American Revolutionary War lasted from 1775 until 1783. This was important because Americas independence was gained.

    The Stamp Act of 1765 was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain which imposed a direct tax on the British colonies in America and required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper. This was important because it was approved by the parliament and its the first law that ever passed that dealt with raising money.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a street fight 1770 between a patriot mob throwing snowballs stones and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. Several colonists were killed. The event in Boston helped to unite the colonies against Britain. What started as a minor fight became a turning point in the beginnings of the American Revolution. The Boston Massacre helped spark the colonists' desire for American independence, while the dead rioters became martyrs for liberty.

    The Boston Tea Party took place because the colonists did not want to have to pay taxes on the British tea. The effect of the Boston Tea Party was that the British passed the Intolerable acts, which were very harsh and cruel to the people of Boston. This was important because the parliament passed the Intolerable Acts.

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were punitive laws passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in the Tea Party protest in reaction to changes in taxation by the British to the detriment of colonial goods.They were an important factor contributing to the American Revolution. Colonists felt that this legislation violated their rights as Englishmen and their Natural Rights as human beings.

    The First Continental Congress was comprised of delegates from the colonies and they met in 1774 in reaction to the Coercive Acts, a series of measures imposed by the British government on the colonies in response to their resistance to new taxes. This was important because Britain then changed quickly and adopted stronger measures and it led to the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

    The battle of Lexington and Concord happened because the British commander in Boston had heard of supplies of powder and weapons being kept by Patriots in the towns of Lexington and Concord.The significance of these battles is that they were the first battles of the Revolutionary War.

    The Declaration explains why the colonies should break away from Britain. It says that people have rights that cannot be taken away, lists the complaints against the king, and argues that the colonies have to be free to protect the colonists' rights.
