  • Subject-Centered Education Approach

    Subject-Centered Education Approach
    Between 1860-1890 faculty psychology appeared. Educators thought that feelings had a different place in the mind and through much mental discipline any subject could be mastered. The mental discipline approach said that any student in any town, in any grade level could master a detailed set of courses.
  • Child Study Movement

    Child Study Movement
    G. Stanley Hall formed a movement call the Child Study Movement. This movement adapted instructional practices to meet students' needs. It changed from children having to memorize and learn the same to it bending so teachers could "bend" the curriculum to fit their children's needs. This is very significant because schools still use this method in their classrooms today.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Children of a minority were now allowed to go to white schools and be allowed the same educational privileges as white students. The courts concluded that education is the most important government function for all students. This shaped schools into being multicultural that we still see today. If it wasn't for Brown v. Board of education, there is no idea of how schools would be segregated and open to all races today.
  • Charter Schools

    Charter Schools
    Virtual education became available to students. Students can now do all of their public education schooling online. They no longer have to go to face to face classes. They no longer have to have interaction with peers of their own age unless they want to. This has had a huge impact on education because the rate of students doing charter schools is going up by 16% each year. Some even predict that by 2019 half of high school students will be enrolled in Charter Schools.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    This act made schooling accommodations for low-income students, minority students, English language learners, and students with disabilities. This act provided highly qualifies teachers be available in core classrooms. It helped the student who had hearing issues and the student who is blind be able to have as much as an opportunity as their peers. This act made education equal and more manageable for all students, especially the ones who struggled due to a disadvantage.
