trip from Ireland
I started out from a port in Prague getting a ticket worth a few months of my hard work. When i got on the boat it was not very nice and was crowded but was good enough to get me to america. The boat ride was very bumby with lots of waves. we got wet from the waves crashing into the boat. The people on the boat were nice they came for the same reason. The boat was made of wood and chiped paint. And we had to sleep under the deck for about three weeks. -
arival
We finally arive at Ellis Island in New York. My wife and me are at the front of the boat and she slips off and falls into the water. We see many other imigrants in tents being looked at. me and my childeren stick together on the boat when everyone is exited. we are amazed at all of the buildings and how tall they are. We finally get docked at the island and everyone is pushing to get off the boat. We are one of the last groups people to get off the boat and to be put in a line. -
examination
When we got off of our boat we were divided. I looked at some of the people and they looked very ill. They fliped our eyelids and striped us looking for any desieses. When they fliped my eylids I was nervouse. When they were done they said your good, good luck he said. We all made it threw and found each other and we all smiled that we were still together. We were greated by a man he said do you want a warm dinner i said yes but he said you need to vote for me at election. -
buying a house
We finally found a house that was within our slim budget it was a single room apartment. I say to my kids that atleast it is better than what we had in russia. We didn't have a toilet so we had to go on the street. I went to meet some neighbors some had kids my kids age and they got along. We were in a good group of people they were honest. The house wasn't very comfortable to sleep in but was better than what we had. We lived near a few good stores for clothes and food. -
it gets interesting in the job
have had my job as a construction worker on a skyscraper about a month now. One day as I was eating lunch a guy said all you russians know how to do is destroy things. So I stood up and told him don't mess with me. And he shoved me so I pushed him off the building and he splattered on the ground and died. I did not get in trouble none of the guys said anything probably because they didn't want to be next. I loved my job I just didn't like some people. I was fine from there on with my job.
