    Santa Anna's seizure of the Mexican Goverment
    In 1821, Santa Anna declared his loyalty to El Libertador (The Liberator): the future Emperor of Mexico, Agustín de Iturbide. He rose to prominence by quickly driving Spanish forces out of the vital port city of Veracruz that same year. Iturbide rewarded him with the rank of general.     Fredonian Rebellion
    The Fredonian Rebellion is considered the first act of Texas Independance. Haden Edwards was the man who led a group of people to Nagodoches and claimed Texas was independant. The Mexican officials and some armed men came to the Edwards settlement and kicked them out.     The Decree of April 6, 1830 stopped immigration from U.S. to Mexico, placed a custom duty tax on goods coming from U.S. into Texas, did not allow new slaves to enter Texas, and it suspended empressario contracts not finalized.

    Battle of Velasco
    This was the first real millitary conflict between the Mexican goverment and the Texas settlers. It happened in present day Freeport.     It held at San Felipe de Austin,in which many Texans pledged their support to Antonio López de Santa Anna. Fifty-five delegates, none of whom were Tejano, represented sixteen districts and met from October 1 through October 6, 1832. The Tejano-populated San Fernando de Béxar and Victoria did not send a delegation. Delegates from La Bahía , who arrived after the meeting had adjourned, approved what had been done.     Once the Mexicans had hammered out a new constitution, the colonial leaders directed Austin to travel to Mexico City to present it to the government along with a list of other demands.     The Goliad Massacre was an exicution of Texan soldiers and their commander that were prisoners. There were many protests but was still carried out by Lt. Colonel José Nicolás de la Portilla under orders of the President of Mexico, Santa Anna. Santa Anna sent General José Urrea into Texas from Matamoros, to make his way north along the coast of Texas.     Fought on April 21, 1836, in present-day Harris County, Texas, was the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. Led by General Sam Houston, the Texian Army engaged and defeated General Antonio López de Santa Anna's Mexican army in a fight that lasted just 18 minutes.
