Hawaii is Discovered
The Hawaiian islands are discovered on canoes. This marks the start of the Hawaiian empire. -

Hawaii is Unified
In 1795 king Kamehameha unifies Hawaii as one nation under one ruler. This was important because the islands had been fighting with each other for a long time and Kamehameha brought peace to Hawaii. -
Missionaries come to Hawaii
In the 1820s Catholic missionaries come to try and promote their religion. This was the first step to take Hawaii from its native people and give it to Europeans. -
U.S. Treaty
1826- U.S. enters into treaty with Hawaii. They offer protection for lower trade tax. -
First sugar cane farm is started
In 1835 the first sugar cane farm is started on Kauai. This is the start of a large profitable industry in Hawaii. -
Wave of Small Pox hits Hawaii
In 1853 a wave of smallpox hits the Hawaiian islands and kills many natives. This is part of the reason the Hawaiians lost their sovereignty and power. -
Japanese Plantation workers depart from Japan
in 1863 the first immigrant sugar cane farmer departs from japan. This is the start of Hawaii's diverse population. -
Mary Monarch takes power
.In 1887 the Merry Monarch takes power and brings back lost Hawaiian cultures and practices. He was one of the reasons Hawaiian's culture is still here today. -
Revolution
In 1893 A revolution is started by plantation owners with Sanford b. Dole as their leader. This is the final blow that ends the Hawaiian's reign of the Hawaiian islands. -
Pearl Harbor
1941- Japanese attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This brings the U.S. into WWII. -
50th State
In 1959 Hawaii becomes the 50th state. This is when Hawaii becomes part of the United states of America. -
Hawaiian President
In 2008 The first Hawaiian president is elected 2008, Barack Obama.
The reason that this is important is due to the fact of the Hawaiian people feeling a sense of power since one of their own has become president of the system that has overthrown them.
