The Spanish sailors visiting Hawaii was a very big mile stone in hawaiian history. This was the first time any foreigner has found the island. Although t they didn't stay long the Spanish were the first to come here. -

At the time Hawaii was a small divided nation with little to no means of protecting its self. When the superpowers of the world started to take notice of these island iy was only a matter of time before someone would try to claim us. Under British protection any country that attacks or invades us has to fight the British military. -
King Kamehameha Unifies the Islands
This was a huge point in Hawaiian history. Without the individual islands battling each other for land and resources Hawaii was able to grow and proper as one nations. -
Small Pox Epidemic
Small pox were brought to the islands by the westerners. When introduced the disease killed of 5,000 native Hawaiian. This was just one example of a western disease killing native people, this was also the beginning of the downfall of the native people. -
The First plantation was Oppened
Plantations were Hawaiiʻs main source of income at the time. They also brought with then hundreds of immigrants. Since then Hawaii became famous for their sugar and other imports all processed on the plantations. -
Queen Liliuokalani was Overthrown
The British overthrew the queen because she was not complying with their requests for more land on the island. By doing this they ended the monarchy system in hawaii and changed the government forever. -
Hawaii becomes US territory
Not yet a state, Hawaii is now placed under the protection of the US. -
Pearl Harbor is Bombed
The attack on pearl harbor killed hundreds of civilians as well as marines station out there. It was also the driving force that rough the US into world war II. -

When Hawaii became a state their were lots of mixed feelings in the islands. Many were excited to be joining the us, however this did mean Hawaii would gave to give up their sovereignty, a freedom many were reluctant to give up.
