James Cook was the first European to discover Hawaii. The Hawaiians believed that he was their god, Lono, the god of land fertility. Cook was killed by the Hawaiians a year later during a dispute on the Big Island.

King Kamehameha and his wariors conqured the multiple islands of Hawaii and unified them as one.

After King Kamehameha's death in 1819, his son, Liholiho, took over. Things changed dramatically when he overturned the Kapu System. Soon after the Kapu System had ended, Christian Missionaries arrived in Hawaii.

American missionaries arrived in Hawaii in 1820 bringing Christianity with them. They helped the Hawaiians record their language and evelntually translated the bible into their language.

The sugar industy started to bloom in the 1830s. Soon after, many businessmen migrated to the area in order to benifit from this growing industry.

On December 7th, 1941 Japan launched a vicious attack on Pearl Harbor. Later that day, President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan. Which ultimatley led to Hawaii being esential for the U.S. war efforts in the Pacific.

Hawaiian's voted to become the 50th state, and in March of 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the bill. Hawaii officially became the 50th state on August 21st, 1959.
