    The Putilov engineering factory was the largest factory in the city of Petrograd (3 years ago known as St. Petersburg). Workers in the Putilov engineering factory demanded a 50% wage increase so they could buy food. The management refused, so the workers decided to go on strike until they got their wish of their wage increase; this was, however, not going to happen soon..

    As the second day of the revolution arrived, it started to get out of hand. Informed about the situation, Nicholas was absolutely furious, and the Duma release emergency food supplies. He refused and ordered that the riots should be put down by March 10th.

    On March 15th, the Tsar, Nicholas II, of Russia abdicated his throne on behalf of his son and himself and said that it was for the betterment of the war and peace. On this day, the Provisional Government was formed, with Lvov as its Prime Minister.

    Bolshevik leaders debate launching a coup immediately but delay until a Congress of Soviets has met and agreed. The Peter and Paul fortress garrison agree to support the military revolutionary committee; in response, the provisional government declares the MRC a criminal organization and tries to arrest its leaders.
