Harry Donnellan's Game History Timeline

  • Born

  • Batman Plug and Play

This was the first game/console that I owned that I didn't have to return! Played this bad boy none stop until it got overthrown by the much-beloved Playstation 2. HotGen 2004, The Batman, video game, plug and play, Jakks Pacific.
  • Mario Kart 64

I believe that I was fortunate enough for Mario Kart 64 to be the first video game I ever played. My brother and I would have to go into respite over the holidays whilst our parents worked. Outback they had a PS2 with an EyeToy and most importantly an N64, four controllers, and Mario Kart. History was being made. Nintendo EAD 1996, Mario Kart 64, video game, Nintendo 64, Nintendo.
  • Sonic 3D Blast

Sadly this was the first video game I ever bought. To make it sadder it was also the first game I ever had to return because it wouldn't install and play properly on our PC. Sonic Team and Traveller's Tales, 1996, Sonic 3D Blast, video game, Personal Computer, Sega.
  • Playstation 2 + Eyetoy

My parents were getting rather desperate for things my highly Autistic brother to do. Turned out my brother quite liked the Eyetoy for the PS2 that respite had. Luckily for me, he took only a passing interested in it at home. Quite the opposite to my brother the slim PS2 was my plastic crack to overturn my Batman plug and play system.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh

Can't remember much about this one honestly. I remember I had a deck ordered online and prior to ordering and waiting for its arrival, I would pretend a normal deck of cards were Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
  • Lego Star Wars 2

Lego. Star. Wars. Ol' mate was the first Co-Op experience I had with my friends. We spent months collecting gold bricks and eventually unlocked Lego City! Then one of my bright spark mates created a new game over the save... Traveller's Tales 2006, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, PlayStation 2, LucasArts.
  • Cars 1

Nearly beat this sucker within 24hrs as a kid and that was a big deal! Sadly enough as it was a brand new game, Video Easy only had it for an overnight borrow. That dang final mission, the game had to be yanked out from under me mid-level to be returned. Never forget. Rainbow Studios 2006, Cars, Playstation 2, THQ.
  • Tony Hawk's: Underground 2

6/7-year-old Harry clearly met the age requirement of M-15+ according to my mum. Thank god I did, because this game opened my eyes to skateboarding. Not that I ever picked up the hobby, but all I wanted to be was a professional skateboarder for a while there. Neversoft 2004, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, PlayStation 2, Activision.
  • Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal

One of the first shooter games I played in my life and a solid introduction to a beloved childhood franchise. Insomniac Games 2004, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Sony Computer Entertainment.
  • Spider-Man 2

Some poor ol' friend of a friend left a couple of games at my house, Tony Hawks Underground 1 and Spider-Man 2! Spider-man 2 was what completed my childhood, I had played Spider-Man 1 on the PC around 5 years old. The fighting scared me too much so all I wanted to do was swing around the map. As well as any kid I was obsessed with Spider-man since I was five. The freedom in Spider-Man 2 was everything child Harry ever wanted and more. Treyarch 2004, Spider-Man 2, PlayStation 2, Activision.
  • Nintendo DS Lite

After "some" pestering I got a second-hand DS Lite for Christmas with Pokemon Emerald! I captured a lot of seagulls before I promptly lost the game. Poor me.
  • Minecraft

Early to mid 2010 I bought and downloaded Minecraft. At the time a small game in early alpha that I and two other of my friend's played. Ah, how the times have changed. Mojang 2011, Minecraft, Mojang, Microsoft Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment,
  • Pokemon: Heartgold

After quite some time I got sick of not owning a pokemon game. Luckily for me, the one I bought had two regions and sixteen gym badges. The real skill of the game was learning to play it sneakily in bed when I'm supposed to be asleep without getting caught. Game Freak 2010, Pokemon Heart Gold, Nintendo DS, Nintendo.
  • Discovered Warhammer 40,000

I discovered those little pieces of plastic crack. As a kid, all I owned was what my friend had traded with me and whatever I could muster from Christmas. I did spend a long time looking at the pictures in the Space Marine's Codex though!
  • PS3

The laser to read discs on my PS2 had died on me after countless hours of use. Christmas was around the corner so I traded in my PS2 for a Playstation 3, Skate 3, and the holy Batman Arkham City.
  • Mirror's Edge

In early 2012 I bought and completed one of my all-time favorite games Mirror's Edge. I was living in Nepal for the first three months of 2012 so this was pretty much the only game I had to play since it was on my laptop. Dice 2009, Mirror's Edge, Personal Computer, Electronic Arts.
  • DayZ Mod for Arma 2

After already owning Arma 2 for some time at my Dad's place I saw a piece on the DayZ mod on ABCs GoodGame. Next trip I took to my dad's house in Tasmania I went down to the local EB games and bought the Operation Arrowhead DLC for the game so I could play the mod. This is important for me because this what got me into Arma really, beyond messing around in the editor. Bohemia Interactive, Arma II: DayZ Mod, Personal Computer, Bohemia Interactive.
  • Assassins Creed 3

I learned why you don't let yourself get too hyped up for a game with Assassins Creed 3. I loved all of the games up till this one, which I still did love. But deep down I knew I had been misled by the E3 gameplay videos. Ubisoft Montreal 2012, Assassins Creed III, Playstation 3, Ubisoft.
  • Built my first PC

I got sick and tired of using awful cheap pre-built PCs and my lackluster laptop. Saved up all my pocket money and not too long after my birthday I had the $600 to build my first ever PC. One of the best decisions I've ever made. At the time I was the only person I knew with a custom built PC too, so I was a real pioneer amongst my friends at the time.
  • Arma 3

By far the game I have played the most over the longest period of time. I bought this game on day one and I've seen it through and through. After many years I eventually got into MilSim which you'll see talked about later Bohemia Interactive 2013, Arma 3, Personal Computer, Bohemia Interactive.
  • Bet Dark Souls

I and other friends set ourselves the challenge of who would beat the game first. None of us had played the game before, we weren't allowed to look anything up for help, we just had to go in blind and pray to god. Beating Dark Souls will forever be the most treasured gaming experience I'll ever have in my life. Plus getting to rub in the fact I bet the game first wasn't half bad either. FromSoftware 2011, Dark Souls, PS3, Namco Bandai Games.
