    Harriets early life
    Harriet Tubman was born as a slave. Her full name is Harriet Rose Tubman and she was born in Araminta Ross, Maryland.Her father was names Ben Ross and his owner was Anthony Thomson. Harriets mother was named Harriet Green but people called her "Rit" and she was owned by Mary Pattison Brodess.

    When Harriet was 13 years old she was hit in the head with an iron weight. The weight wasnt aimed for her, it was meant to hit a runaway slave. After she was hit she began to have many seizures which effected her for the rest of her life.

    Harriet, and her two brother Ben and Henry all escaped from their plantations. Ben and Henry had second thoughts about this whole proceedure, so they decided to return back to their plantation. Harriet traveled 90 miles using the underground railroad and made it to a slave free state safely.

    Harriet decided to return back to the south to pick up a family to guide them to freedom. When she returned to the plantations she picked up Kessiah, her niece, her husband, John Bowley, and thier two children. After that journey all of them made it too freedom.

    Harriet decided to take her third trip north to go get her husband, but when she arrived her husband John was remarried and didnt want to leave. After that she just went back down south, and picked up more runaways. she led the passangers through Pennsylvania to Frederick Douglas which was a safe house.They stayed in the safe house untill Harriet got enough money to start a journey to Canada. they set out to St. Catherine, because out there black and whites lived together in comfortable houses.

    In 1861 Harriet returned from living in Canada to U.S, and when she arrived, the civil war was accuring. Any woman were able to become nurses for the injured soilders, so she decided to become a nurse in a hospital in South Carolina. Harriet helped the wounded and sick.

    Harriet Tubman got remarried to Nelson Davis, who was 22 years younger than her. They got married in a Presbyterian church. Their marriage lasted about 20 years, untill Nelson died most likely from Tuberculosis, in 1888
  • After Nelsons death

    Harriet and Nelson adopting a young baby girl that they names Gertie Davis. They adopted the little girl when she was only 9 months old. Since Nelson died, and Gertie was left to just Harriet was responsible for the houshold, and therfor things got rough, without any income.

    Harriet later got involved with the womans suffrage movments and started to give speeches in Boston, Washington, and New York. Also within that year, she got brain surgery at Bostons Massachuetts General Hospital, becuase of her injury when she was younger girl with getting hit in the head with a iron weigth. She refused to take anasthesia, and said that she would rather chew on bullets, like the soliders use to.

    Harriet died when she was 93 years old from pneumonia.She was burried in Auburn New York at Fort Hill Cemetery. Harriet lived a long sucessful life, and as far as i know she is proud of all of her accomplishments, and all the beautiful things she've done for people.
