Harriet received her education at Hartford Female Seminary, a school run by her sister. She learns her reading and writing here. After she graduates she becomes a teacher here.

The Stowes hired a servant girl who was free since her mistress had brought her and allowed her to stay in Cincinnati. Eventually, the girls mistress came back for her. The Stowe's help the girl escape.This event created the basis of "Uncle Toms Cabin".

Fugitive slave act is passed. Harriet is very upset about it because it makes assisting a slave a federal crime. Grows Harriet's belife that she needs to make a change.This inspires Harriet to write her thoughts.
