Intro
Hi, readers. In this timeline, you will read about a girl named Hana and her brother George. This timeline is based on a true story. Can you believe that some people don’t even believe it happened! So please sit back and start reading! -
Happy Beginning
Hana and her family owned a store. They were upper middle class and had a happy life. -
Star of David
Hana’s family were Jews, so they were forced to wear the star of David. They also had to be home-schooled and were only allowed to visit certain places because of the Nazis. -
Nazis
While Hana’s family was mistreated, the Nazis were gaining more ground in Europe. -
Losing Parents
Hana’s parents were both taken away to camps, so Hana and George went to live with their Aunt and Uncle. -
Concentration Camp
Hana and George were ordered to report to a deportation station on May 14th. -
At Theresienstadt
When they arrived, the boys and girls were put in separate barracks, but as a younger child, Hana was not allowed to leave the building. This meant she couldn't see George. -
Sudden Death
There were more people arriving at the camp every day. Hana and George’s grandma was also sent there, but she died three months after arriving at the camp. -
Separation
George's name was on a list to be sent away to a camp in the East. -
Lost of War
The Nazis began to realise they were losing and so the transports out of Theresienstadt were sped up. A few weeks after George was sent away, Hana received news that she was also sent to another camp in the East. -
Gas Chamber
After a long train trip without any toilets, food, or water, Hana reached Auschwitz on October 23rd. She was killed in a gas chamber the moment she arrived. -
The Great Escape
In May 1945, George managed to escape and went straight to his Uncle and Aunt’s house. There, he found out that his parents were murdered at other camps. -
Death of Hana
George was desperate to find his sister, because he couldn’t lose his sister. One day a girl who was a friend of Hana saw George. She told him that Hana had been killed in a gas chamber. -
Fumiko Ishioka
Fumiko Ishioka, director of the Holocaust Resource Center, found out where George lives. She also learned about George’s sister, Hana, so she wrote a letter to him. -
Small Wings
George received Fumiko’s letter and went to Japan, where he met “Small Wings.” This is a group of students who wanted to learn more about the Holocaust and teach other people about it. He told them about Hana and his story, a story he had never told in years. -
Death of George Brady
George Brady, sadly, died in Toronto, on January 11, 2019, at the age of 90. He had a horrifying childhood, but he also had a blessed life after he escaped. -
Conclusion
It makes me sad that so many people die and there are fewer Holocaust survivors every year. So please tell more people about the Holocaust, so that they never make this kind of mistake again. Thank you for reading my timeline and have a great day!
