Jamestown
The first permanent english settlement in the new found world. Jamestown remained the capital of the colonies for 83 years, 1616-1699. Relations with the English and Native Americans soured early on in the colonies development. -
House of Burgesses
The House of Burgesses was the first legislative assembly of elected representatives in North America. The House was established by the Virginia Company. -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was the first governmental document for the Plymouth Colony. It was signed aboard the ship before the colonists even stepped foot on shore. -
Start of Slavery
Was practiced by the colonies in the 18th and 19th colonies. It was recognized in the thirteen colonies even during the creation of the Declaration of Independence. -

French and Indian War
The British and the colonists versus the French and the Native American alliance. Both countries fought for the land west of the Appalachians and in Canada. -
Treaty of Paris (1763)
This treaty ended the "French and Indian War". This also marked the era of British dominance outside of Europe. -
Proclamation of 1763
A declaration by King George III following the French and Indian War stating that the colonists weren't allowed to settle west of the Appalachian mountians. The British military could not guarantee that they could protect the colonists if they settled there. -
Stamp Act
This act was created by the British parlament to tax any and all printed papers. The act was eventually repealed in March 18, 1766. -
Boston Massacre
An inncident in the streets of Boston where a mob was harassing a royaly appointed official. Later supported by soliders, tension grew between the two. Then the soliders fired into the croud, without orders, and instantly killed three colonists. Two others later died from injuries related to the event. -
Boston Tea Party
A political protest by the Sons of Liberty against the Tea act put in place on May 10, 1773. -

A meeting held by delegates of twelve of the thirteen colonies to discuss the idea of the American Revolution. -
Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord was where the first military engaments of the American revolution occured.
