Grenada gains independence from the United Kingdom. Sir Eric Gairy lead the revolution. -
Revolution to Overthrow the Government
The New Jewel Movement (NJM) led by Maurice Bishop led a revolution against the government. The revolution was armed and they overthrew the government. On this day Gairy was out of the country. Grenada was now able to establish a People's Revolutionary Government. -
