Ancient Egyptian Civilisation Forms
Narmer (also called Menes), the first pharoah of Egypt, unified Northern and Southern Egypt, forming a whole country led by dynasties. -
Period: 3150 BCE to 2675 BCE
Early Dynastic Period
Dynastic rule over Egypt was formed with the 1st and 2nd dynasties ruling during that time period. A strong government also took shape. -
Period: 2675 BCE to 2130 BCE
Old Kingdom
After the end of Dynasties 1 and 2, the founder of the 3rd dynasty, Djoser, helped make the government more organised and strong. Many famous pyramids, structures and monuments were built during that time with the Great Pyramid of Giza being one of them. Dynasties 3 through to 8 ruled during that period. -
2570 BCE
The Step Pyramid
The first ever pyramid was built by the Egyptians as a tomb for the Pharoah Djoser. Designed as a burial place for his body, it was built around 2570BCE. -
Period: 2550 BCE to 2490 BCE
Great Pyramids of Giza
The Three Great Pyramids of Giza were built during three different reigns. The most notable of the three, the Great Pyramid of Giza, was built by Pharoah Khufu. The second pyramid was built by Khafre and the third by Menkaure. -
2500 BCE
The Great Sphinx of Giza
Another great monument was built during the reign of Khafre. It was based of the Sphinx from ancient Egyptian Mythology which had the body of a lion and the head of a human. It was believed that this statue was built to protect the pyramids. -
Period: 2030 BCE to 1650 BCE
Middle Kingdom
Many new forms of art took shape and styles while many artists developed fresh techniques as well. Dynasties 11 - 14 ruled during that time period of Egypt. -
Period: 1539 BCE to 1075 BCE
New Kingdom
Throughout the reign of dynasties 18-20, Egypt reached new heights of power and wealth as well as conquering new lands. -
Period: 332 BCE to 305 BCE
Macedonian Period
Alexander the Great freely conquered Egypt and the Persian Empire, bringing a new reign to Egypt. Alexander the Great and his successors were the rulers of Egypt during that time. -
Period: 305 BCE to 30 BCE
Ptolemaic Dynasty
Before the demise of Ancient Egypt's last dynasties, the country was ruled from Ptolemy I to Cleopatra VII, the last pharoah of Egypt.
