Repeal of Corn Laws
- Economic policies were changed and Great Britain now favoured free trade instead of protectionism
- Tariffs were removed for selected items that were traded between Great Britain and BNA colonies
- The British repealed the corn laws in 1846, where they adopted a free trade policy so manufacturers could buy raw materials at the cheapest price

Reciprocity Treaty
- Allowed British North American colonies to trade certain items with the United States without tariffs being charged
- From 1854-1866 this treaty contributed to a period of renewd prosperity
- Between the British North American colonies, not having reliable transportation made trades difficult so they traded with the U.S more than with themselves

Gold Rush In The Fraser Valley
- An abundance of gold was found in Fraser Valley causing many people to migrate there
- The H.B.C had purchased over 20 kilograms of gold which was taken to the mint in San Francisco to be weighed, analysed, and made into coins
- Unfortuinate miners left believing the gold rush of Fraser Valley was a hoax

The Intercolonial Railway
- Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Canada East and West all had their own seperate railways but not one that joined them together
- Incase the United States would attack, an intercolonial railway could move troops safely and quickly from on colony to another
- The Grand Truck Railway became bankrupt which edventually leaded up to confederation from colonies needing money to pay off debt

Charlottetown Conference
- Made to discuss Maritime union based on their common interests as a maritime region
- All colonies except Newfoundland was invited, because they were thought not to be interested
- Resulted to spend more time considering a confederation of B.N.A. colonies in a second meeting held in Quebec

Quebec Conference
- Continued discussion last made at the end of the Carlottetown Conference
- Newfoundland joined in, even though they weren't at the Carlottetown Conference
- Resulted in a list with the name of "Seventy-Two Resolutions"

Cancellation of the Reciprocity Treaty
- The United States was the one to cancel the Reciprocity Treaty in 1865
- British North American colonies thought of joining together so they could trade tariff free
- They also hoped joining together would increase their econiomic prosperity

London Conference
- The 72 Resolutions was shown to the British Officials
- Nova Scotia and Newbrunswick were the ones who sailed there to show them the 72 Resolutions
- They modified the 72 Reolutions naming it the British North American act

The Fenian Threat
- Was between the Fenian Brotherhood (based on the U.S.) and British Canada
- Fenians were an Irish Catholic group who had hope to free Ireland
- There were many raids that took place at locations like Campobello Island, Ridgeway, Fort Erie, Pigeon Hill, Eccles Hill, Trout River, and Pembina

- Goal was to create confederation otherwise known as a federal union of the colonies of British North America that associated with Great Britain
- The BNA act created the Dominion of Canada in 1867
- Stated the powers of a federal and provincial governments
