    Great Migration Timeframe

    Upwards of 6 million African American citizens moved from the Southern to Northern, Midwestern, and Western states. It was prompted by poor economic circumstances for African Americans and continued racial segregation.

  • The Lusitania

    The British ocean liner by the name Lusitania was launched by the Cunard Line in 1906 and had the fastest ocean crossing in 1908. On May 7th, 1915, A German U-Boat was spotted on Lusitania’s radar but was ignored. This same U-Boat blew up the Lusitania sinking it in only minutes. This and a correspondence from Germany to Mexico encouraged Americans to join the war.

    Jeanette Rankin of Montana, Elected in 1917. Since her groundbreaking election, 423 woman have held positions in office.

    This act prohibit obtaining information, documents, photos or copying descriptions of anything involving national defense with the intention of injury to the United States or giving an advantage to a foreign nation.

    Made it a crime for American citizens to print, publish, or speak any false, scandalous, or malicious writings targeted towards the government.

    WOMAN CAN VOTE! While this guaranteed woman the right to vote regardless of gender, race segregation was still real and even during marches for women rights the white women tried to segregate the black women.
  • US Senate Rejects Treaty of Versailles

    Woodrow Wilson denied the treaty to end the war but senate passed it because he did not take senators objections into consideration.

    -In relation to the Espionage Act-
    Schenck was accused of obstructing military drafts by handing out fliers encouraging young men to resist induction into the military during wartime. The constitution did not protect him and his conviction was upheld.

    Johnson and Johnson employee Earle Dickson invented the adhesive bandage. It was made for his wife who often hurt herself cooking. Band-aids became mass produced by 1924.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    A bribery scandal involving USA administration President Warren G Harding from 1921 to 1923. Briberies from private oil companies were accepted by the president and they set up at Teapot Dome Wyoming. Ended 1923.

    Hamburgers had already existed, but in 1924 a 16 year old named Lionel sternberger was working in his dads Sandwich shop when he added a slice of American cheese. They called it a cheese hamburger until the 1930s.
