Government Time Line

  • Albany Plan

    In 1754, the British board of trade called a meeting in Albany, New York. They discussed the problems of trade,and the dangers of the French and Native American tribes.This plan consisted of raising the military and naval forces, and make peace with the Native Americans. It was denied by the king and the colonies
  • The Stamp Act

    The British king implied harsh taxes on the American colonies. There was taxes on everything including every single paper that was used. In 1965, nine colonies had a meeting in New York which they called the "Stamp act congress". Parliament repealed the stamp act but it was the first time the British joined to oppose the British crown.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party occured on December 16, 1773. Men disguised themselves as NAtive Americans and boarded three ships in the Boston Harbor. The dumped boxes of tea into the harbor to protest Britain's control over tea trade.
  • Intolerable Acts

    In 1777 the Patriots made a rule of laws and called it the intolerable acts. The laws were meant to Punish Massachusetts for their defiance in the Boston Tea Party. The laws took away self governance.
  • First Continental Congress

    The delegates from every colony except Georgia met in Philadelphia. They discussed the worsening situation about the taxes and debating plans for action. Most of these delegates were the soon to be founding fathers if the United States.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Fought on April 19, 1775, the battles of Lexington and Concord was a bloody day. Paul Revere, who sounded the alarm, warned the troops.
  • Second Continental congress

    Since the British refused to accept the compromise, the second continental congress began to form. They met in Philadelphia on May 10, 1775. With John Hancock the president of the congress, they formed a Constitution.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Approved on July 4, 1776, was the Declaration of Independence. Though, It wasn't signed till August 2. It was written to show the ideas and goals for our nation. It contained the complaints against the British King, and the arguments of why the Americans wanted freedom from the British.
  • Start and End of the American Revolution

    The American Revolution started on April 19, 1775 with the battles at Lexington and Concord. The revolution was the Americans fighting for independence from the British crown rule. Many of their plans failed but finally succeeded with the Declaration of Independence. The revolution ended in 1783.
