FDA First Concieved
The FDA is the oldest government-run consumer protection agency. In 1848, Lewis Caleb Beck was hired to conduct chemical analysis on newly patented products. -
Interstate Commerce Act
When Congress passed this law, they made railroads the first government regulated industry. This regulation got rid of monopolies and unfair business practices within the industry. -
FDA's First Contemporary Functions
The FDA's first modern regulatory functions occurred with the passage of the Pure Foods and Drug Act in 1906. -
