Magna Carta
It was the first document the king of england was forced to use. It was meant to limit his powers. -
Petition of Right
It stated what the king was prohibited to do. It set restrictions on taxation, forced billeting of soldiers, imprisonment without cause, and restricts the use of martial law. -
English Bill of Rights
It set out a set of rules and rights for everyone to follow and recieve. It did not go very far from what I understand. -
Albany Plan of Union
It was a proposal to unify all of the states. It was kind of like a love/hate relationship. People were for and against it. -
Boston Massacre
An event where people tried to get others to calm down, and in return, it turned into a riot. British soldiers killed 5 civilians. -
Boston Tea Party
It was where America went on strike against Britian. In the process, they threw all of their tea off of the ship. -
First Continental Congress
People met from all 12 colonies to respond to the passage of the Coercive Acts. The congress had 56 members appointed. -
Second Continental Conress
It managed the colonial war effort. It was just to redue the constituion they had at the time. -
Declaration of Independence
It annouced that the 13 colonies at war declared themselves as separate states. The stated that they were no longer a part of the British Empire. -
Articles of Confederation
It was the first written set of laws that joined all 13 states together. It had changed many times after it was made. -
Shay's Rebellion
It was named after Daniel Shay and a rebel leader. It was brought on by financial difficulties brought about by a post-war economic depression, a credit squeeze caused by a lack of hard currency, and fiscally harsh government policies. -
Virginia Plan
It was known as the "Randolph Plan". It was set for the overall agenda for debate. -
New Jersey Plan
It is known as the "Small state plan" or the "Paterson plan". It said we needed two houses of congress, both elected by the people. -
Philadelphia Convention
It adressed problems governing the United States of America. The result of the convention was the making of the United States Constitution.
