Google began as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin originally called BackRub. -
Google.com
The domain google.com is registered on September 15, 1997. The name is a play on the word "googol", a mathematical term for the number represemted by the numeral followed by 100 zeros which reflects on Larry and Sergey's mission to organise a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web. -

On September 4, 1998. Google files for incorporation in California. Larry and Sergey open a bank account in the newly-established company's name depositing the money invested by Andy Bechtolsheim. Google also sets up workspace in Susan Wojcicki's garage on Santa Margarita Ave, Menlo Park, California. Craig Silverstein, a fellow PhD student at Stanford, was hired as the first employee. -
