    In the 1800's lots of the non-aboriginal people in australia lived settled lives. Lots of rich people lived in really big houses and didn't mix with the poorer people.

    As soon as everyone heard about the new discovery of gold in bathurst, thousands of people left their farms and jobs to go and look for gold.

    Most gold panners left their families behind, but one-quarter of those people on the goldfields in 1852 were women.Many of the women that were gold panning were doing it along side their husbands. So that meant they had to bring their children with them as well, more than 200 hundred children were there with their parents.
