Neda Agha-Soltan Murder
Muhmoud Ahmadinejad won the presidential election in 2009. The "Green Revolution" (activist group in Iran) started using social media to document the struggle of protesters. Twitter was the most common medium during the protests. A youtube video of a bystander Neda Agha-Soltan who was a philosophy student shows her getting shot in the chest at one of the protests. This is believed to have led many to suggest that the post-Iranian election was the birth of citizen journalists. -
Khaled Said injustice
Posted a video of police brutality. Died shorty after and the to officers that were there claimed it was because he suffocated after taking drugs. A family member from Khaled showed his badly beaten body. It caused an uproar of protests when the proof of his death by being beaten to death came to light. Facebook pages were being built to bring attention to his injustice. "We Are All Khaled Said" and "Elshaheed" People wanted to share the fact that this could happen to anyone. -
Muhamed Bouazizi Protest
Mohamed Bouazizi lost everything to the police in his home town. He endured constant harassment and insults form officials. He went to the governor and the governor refused to see him. Feeling unnoticed he then set himself on fire crying out,"how do you expect me to make a living?" Protest then began form other shop owners. His burning video spread through facebook, youtube, blogs ect. It was picked up by Al Jazeera. This caused more protests. government tried to block social media sites. -
Taking a Knee
Colin Kaepernick started protesting police brutality and the inequality that people of color in the United States face. He did so by sitting for the national anthem and then changed it to take a knee. Colin, has faced backlash in the year and change since then. When Trump said that NFL owners need to fire the “sons of bitches” who are “disrespecting the flag,” it started more protests. TV&tweeter are the biggest media transport. Football players & others use flag as a canvas for their protest. -
Trumps Immigration Ban
Thousands rushed to the nation's airports after a frenzy of tweets were sent out. Flash protest came together quickly when Trump issued the immigration ban. Protests continued to grow and trump avoided media and the mobs as they demanded a reason and an explanation to this decision.
