  • First African American President

    On Nov. 5, 2008 American elected its first black president, Barack Obama. The criticism he endured from the time he was elected until the time he left office in 2016 never ended. At the beginning of his campaign which began widespread in 2008 mainly focused on Facebook and his second campaign was widespread on Facebook and Twitter.
  • The Death of Trayvon Martin

    Trayvon Martin's death on February 26, 2012 was widespread on ALL social media platforms but the protests did not occur full force until George Zimmerman's not guilty verdict on July 13, 2013. Not only were their protests on every social media platform to bring attention to the flaws in the justice system but their were protests in the street.
  • The Death of Michael Brown

    This was a major issue on Facebook but extremely on Twitter. This was protest against extreme police force and became a racial issue among the police force.
  • Same Sex Marriage

    Same sex marriage became legal in all 50 states was a major platform for all social media especially Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Separation of Immigrant Families

    Views inside the border that showed where immigrant children were separated from their families. This became a major disruption on Facebook and Twitter because tags can be created and long videos posted along with multiple comments and experiences.
