    Most of the children from this era were injured from working long hours. They worked ten hours everyday for six days a week. It was rare to see a child at school. Since they worked a lot while growing up they had a life span of 30 years.

    The government taxed more in order to have more money. They used the money to improve the railroads and better transportation.
  • Tenement Housing

    Immigrants had to live in a narrow apartment buildings. They were cramped, lacked indoor pluming, lacked proper ventilation, and were poorly lit. The children played on the fire escape and they shared a toilet with the other people on their floor.
  • Monopolies

    Monopolies
    Some companies sought to eliminate or get rid of competition. They put other businesses out of business. Therefore citizens have to buy from that one company paying whatever price the company set.
