Ryan goes to ground zero to remind himself why he chose to fight. They spot a woman who comes to the memorial lays flowers down and cries. This gives Ryan a fresh resolve to serve his country. -

In samarra or the city Achmed Built Ryan and his company are on patrol. They are walking through when they are ambushed by insurrectionists. They survive but Ryan realizes how real the war is. -

Ryan heads to abu grhaib which has become famous for treatment of prisoners. Ryan finds the prison is better place than he thought. He goes through many mortars and bombing and gets used to it. -

Ryan and Zerega are relaxing from busy work when LT asks them to come. They are told they need to salvage a humvee hit by and IED. Ryan thinks on the soldiers who were KIA and is relieved it was not him. -
Ryan is on leave for a while.
Ryan is sent on leave for a couple of weeks. He is glad to see his wife and family. He also gets to see his niece for the first time. -

Ryan is at a party with his family. A balloon pops but he ducks and covers like his life depended on it. He can leave iraq but iraq cannot leave him. -

Ryan returns to q west and is told James Cocklin died from an IED. Ryan can't remember him but attends his funeral. He thinks of how cocklin won't be around to see his family and is upset. -

Ryan recieves a letter saying his dad is doing well. His dog haley on the other hand was put down. Before she was she got to have a good time with Ryan's dad. Ryan cried. -
Ryan takes kids to 9-11 exhibit(no exact date)
Ryan takes kids to a 9-11 exhibit and gets teared up. A child asks him why and he tries to explain. The child can't understand and niether can he. -

Ghosts of war is published. People realize they dont see all of the war.Ryan is enjoying his leave from deployment.
