The Congress of Vienna restores Austria's power over Italy and splits Italy into separate kingdoms (again). -
Revolutions of 1848
Each of the Italian States attempt to revolt. These revolts are all crushed by Austria. -
Crimean War
A war between the Ottomans, French, and British and the Russians. Italy(Sardinia) wasn't directly involved, but they seized the opportunity to strengthen ties with the stronger nations and offered their troops to assist the British, French, and Ottomans. -
Plans are Made
Marriage was proposed between Victor Emmanuel's 15 year old daughter and Prince Napoleon Bonaparte in order to form an alliance between France and Italy. -
Italy is Unified
The Italian States are finally freed from outside control and Victor Emmanuel is crowned king of Italy. -
Venetia
Venetia is added to Italy after Italian armies unite with Prussia during their war against Austria and take the territory. -
Capture of Rome
Italy is finally complete as Rome is added in 1870. The Franco-Prussian War begins and French troops are forced to leave Rome to defend France. Italian troops take the weakened city.
