Napoleon invades German Land
Napoleon invades Germany and caused canges in territory if German speaking lands. He won parts of modern day german for the French and Germany had been split up. There was sections German that were split up and never put back together until Bismark united Germany. -

Congress of Viena
The Congress of Viena was a group of people from Europe that set to put the continent back to gether after Napoleon's reign. They settled land disagreements that resulted from Napoleon's invasions. The Congress did not put Germany back together. There were 39 Germanic States but they weren't unified. This resulted in Bismark wanting to unify the Germanic states andand led to Germany becoming unified and a powerful country in the world. -
Otto Von Bismarck birth
He was born in his family's estate in Prussia. His mother was from a family of successful ministers and his father was a Prussian landowning noble. -
Zollvereign
The came into Existence on this day. The Zollvereign was a union created by Prussia that dissoled the tariff barriers between the Germanic states. The Zollvereign got rid of the tax for trading between to Germanic states and the trade was tax free. -

Frankfurt Assembly demands unity
The Frankfurt Assembly was a group of elected people from every Gremanic state and they wanted to unite Germany. They debated deas to unite Germany. They also wrote a constitution for a Germany but was denied by the Kaiser. -
Frederick William IV is offered throne
Frederick William IV was offered the throne of newly united Germany by the Frankfurt assembly. He does not take the position because it was given to him by the people, not by God. -
Blood and Iron speech
Bismark gave his Blood and Iron speech in Spetember of 1862. The speech depicted hoe Bismark wanted to unify Germany. He wanted to unify Germany by fighting and wars and using weapons instead of trying to unify Germany through polotics. He didn't think asking for a change and then comprimising was going to unify Germany. -
Bismark declares war on Denmark
In 1864, Bismark declared war on Denmark in order to take control of Schlegwig and Holstein. He wanted to take this land and would do it through war. At the time, Germany had a strong relationhip with Austria and together, the two countries were able to win Schlegwig and Holstein. -
Bismark declares war on Austria
Bismark declared war on Austria and the war lasted seven weeks. Bismark attacked Austria, the once ally, in order to gain more land for Germany and unify more Germnaic states. -

Campaign Againsts Socialists
Bismark feared that the socialists would undermine his leadership and start a revolution. To prevent this, he created laws that dispnaded the socialists. This, however, did not work. The socialists fought this decision and Bismark ended up creating laws that protected the socialist party. -

The Franco Prussian War was between France and Prussia. Bismark wanted to go to war with France but didn't want other countries think Germany started the war. In order to do this, he made it seem like Germany insulted the French ruler and the French attacked Germany. Bismark wanted to unite more Germanic states that were near France and knew that the land would have to be taken through war. -
Bismark becomes chancellor
In 1871, Bismark was appointed as chancellor. As Chancellor, he focused on building a strong united Germanic state. He wanted to make Germany the strongest country in Europe and won people of Germany over by providing services that would greatly benefit the people. -

The Second Reich was created when all of Germany was unified. The Second Reich was the Emporer of the new German Empire. -

Population Growth
The population of German increased significantly during this time period. It grew due to the abundant resuorces found in Germany. Also, the workers were highly skilled and educated which created faster and better production of goods which allowed a ot of profit to be made. With the money Germany now had, people had larger families because they could support large families. -

The House of Krupp was a steel making factory that pruduced a lot of steel and benefitted Germany's economy. It went from a small factory to a large factory with over 50,000 people. The working population grew to keep up with steel demands and pruduce more profit. The steel was used to make big and strong weapons to make the German Empire strong. -

Economic Development
Germany's economy grew because of better workforde and trade. Because Germany was unified and expanded, they could trade with more and with more places. Also, the better workforce produced better goods that Germany was able to trade. Finally, the steel production enabled Germany to build more buildings and factories to make more money and createa better economy. -
WIlliam I of Prussia becomes Emporer
William I was chosen as the German Emporer during the Franco Prussian war. Under William I, Germany was unified and the German Empire was established. -
Constitution Drafted by Bismark
The constitution was the basic laws of United Germany that was cretaed by Germany. The constitution said there were two legislative houses and those were the classes of people. The constitution remained in effect until the 1900s. -

Campaign against the church (Kulturekampf)
Bismark campaigned against the catholics because he feared they would remain loyal to their religion instead of him. This scared him because about 30% of Germany's population was catholic. In order to prevent this, he ordered the catholics to give up their religion. The catholics never did and Bismark finally accepted people being catholic under his reign. -
William II becomes Kaiser
William II becomes Kaiser when his father, William I, came out of power. William II was very confident in his ability to rule but he ended up making decisions that would result in the first word war. -
Bismark resigns
When William II came to power, he said there should only be one man in power in Germany and that that person was him. He asked Bismark to resign and Bismark agreed. He wants to keep Germany unified and thought something bad might happen if he decided to kight Williams II"s decision. He allowed WIlliam II to rule over united Germany.
