Bismarck also saw socialists as a threat becaus ehe thought that they would cause German workers to have a revolution. He passed laws that got rid of socialist newpapers and stopped their meetings. This did not work so to compromise the Germans received health and accident insurence form the government. -

This war was against the Second French Empire. It was made because it was nessary to unite the North German Confederation. and the independent southern German states. The German Confederation won the war. -

He was the emperor of Prussia for 17 years. He fled to England in 1848 due to revolutionary uprisings. He appointed Bismarck to be prime minister. -

From 1871 to 1914 German population went form 41 million to 67 million. This furthered the eceonomy because there were more workers to work in factories. There was also more of a demand for products. -

Campaign against the church (Kulturekampf)
Bismarck saw the catholic church as a threat because they put God above the state. He launched the "Kulturkampf" (battle for civilization) which gave the right to the state to supervise Catholic education and aprove the appointment of preists. This did not work because people rallied behind the church, causing Bismarck to make peace. -
Constitution drafted by Bismarck
The constitution was the basic law of the Germna Empire until 1919. The constitution was between the German Confederation. -
William II Becomes Kaiser
William II suceeded his grandfather as kaiser. He was eager to leave his mark on Germany. -
Bismarck resigns
In 1888 William II became kaiser. He believed that his right to rule came from God, so he should be the onyl master. He forced Bismarck to resign.
