    In the early 1800s of Aftica all was well. Seyyer said was in control of almost all of the East African regions. Onl about 10% of East africa had anything to do with europe at this time. Their were small regions ru by religious and everything was working out fine.

    In the 1840s the Sultan of Oman, Seyyer Said took over the east coast of Africa. This commosion attracted the British who were regulary sailing too and from India at this point. With the help of Britian Seyyer moved the capital from Muscat to a island off the coast of Africa, Zanzibar.

    When Seyyid Said died in 1856 his territory was divided by his sons. Majid got Zanzibar and the younger brother Thwain took Oman. Seyyers untimley deathe ruined the Dominance his family had on Africa by splitting the domians. Britian quicly jumped on the division and made Oman and Zanzibar permanetlt divided.

    Bangash Takes Over Zanzibar
    After the death of his brother Majid, Bangash took control of Zanzibar in 1870. While Bangash ruled, Britian took advantage of his inexperience and started to have great influence on Zanzibar. So in 1872 A scotish shipbuilder set up a mail route between Britian, India and Zanzibar.

    Britian made a man Sir John Kirk the permenent consul general of Zanzibar looking to get someone into a position of authority. The consul general made it seem like a good to idea to Bangash to abolish the slave trade. Bangash signed a document to get rid of the trade. This consul men thought he could also get Bangash to sign Britian as a Protectorate of Zanzibar. Bangash had figured out the British scheme and played two shipping firms of Germany agaist the British.

    Germans Take Over
    In 1884 A German explorer Karl Peters trfavled from Zanzibar inland towards the Western edge of the Sultan Of Zanzibar territoy. Peters was granted the oppurtunity to take over the East Arfrican terriory by Bismark. Peters recaived a charter ship to sail to East Africa for "German East African Company". The Company did not do very well so the goverment had to take over in 1888 for full controll of East Africa
  • Buganda

    Buganda
    Karl Peters looked at all of Zanzibar as untaken land. Peters contiuned to lead Germans deaper into Africa on a search for Emin Paha a european explorer forced to leave the upper nile river. The search was not successful but Peters did sign a treaty with the Leader of Buganda and quickly left due to stronger British forces arriving. Peters did not stay in position of German commioner for long after he was convited for treating Africans with disrespect and racism, like most Germans did.

    The British sent an miltary unit to Buganda after the death of a missionary. This army was led by Fredrick Lugard. This army went to support Protestants. By 1892 the British army defeated the Catholics and they split Buganda along regional lines.

    Afetr Lugards great success in Africa the British asked for the funds to make a railway from Mombasa to lake vicoria. This idea was shot down the vritish threatened to leave Buganda. Missioary groups didnt like that idea and thought it would lead to more Christian deaths. The british got support from local chambers of commerce and trade organizations. By the time all was said and done Britsh got Uganda to be a British protectorate in 1894.

    All the chaos and power struggles in Africa at this time were for Land Money and politcal dominance. The more Land you own to more dominance you have and thats why Britian and German were so intrigued by East coast of Africa. It was an abundance of land that was worth alot due to its location on the East coast.
