He was a controversial chief of the Lower Creeks. He was killed by his own people. He fought with the Americans during the war of 1812. -
University of Georgia founded
Georgia was the first to charter a state-supported university. Everyone could go not just the rich people.Abraham Baldwin was selected president of the university on February 13, 1786. -

The capital was was moved to Louisville because they were looking for a permanent place for it. However it wasn't long til they moved it again. -
Yazoo Land Fraud
It as been said to be the worst political scandal in Georgia. the land companies bribed the legislators to sell the land to them below its real value( 2 cent per acre) and they'd turn around and sold it to the people for really high prices. once the bribery was found out the legislators wee voted out of the office. -
Missouri Compromise
This compromise was made under the leadership of Henry Clay and this compromise later caused conflict. Maine was made a free state while Missouri was made a slave state(this kept things balanced). Louisiana territory- which was a line divided 36 degrees 30 north latitude- north of the line (except of Missouri) slavery was banned, while south of the line slavery was legal. -
Dahlonega Gold Rush
The discovery of gold in the Cherokee nation caused a mad rush for mineral. Thousands poured into Georgia trying to find some gold. They soon refused for the cherokee any right to mine for gold. -
Worcester v. Georgia
Worcester was a main representative for the Cherokee. Georgia wanted Cherokees land and they filed a case and John Marshall ruled in their favor. However Georgia ignored the ruling and removed them from the land anyways. -
John Marshall
John Marshall was a part of the Worcester v. Georgia as a chief justice in the supreme court. He made a ruling that favored the Cherokee and it said that Georgia couldn't take the Cherokee land from them. -

Trail of tears
In the Trail of tears five Native American groups were marched away from their land that the Georgia people took from them and they were relocated elsewhere. theses five Native Americans tribes were Choctaw, Seminole, Creek, Chickasaw, Cherokee. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This was passed to allow people in Kansas and Nebraska territories deiced whether or not they wanted to allow slavery. It repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820 prohibiting slavery north of latitude 36 degrees 30. -
Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was a Solider and a statesman. He's important to Georgia history because he served as the 7th president from 1829-1837 and he refused to follow the case Worcester v. Georgia to the Supreme Court. He just kept on planning for the removal of the Native American. -
Compromise of 1850
California wanted to enter as a free state and for them to be able to do that the congress had to pass the fugitive slave act for the south. the fugitive slave act was the law to return any slaves that escaped to a new territory or state. -
Georgia Platform
The Georgian politicians were deciding if they should accept the terms of the compromise of 1850. This brought the fugitive slave act into the compromise. -
Dred Scott Case
Dred Scott was a slave who lived with his owner in a free state before going to a slavery state.When it turned into a slavery state he argued that his time spent in a free state entitled him to emancipation. To this the court said that blacks free or slave couldn't claim U.S citizenship so they were unable to petition for their freedom and this outraged the abolitionists. -
Election of 1860
This was a American presidential election between Abraham Lincoln, John Breckinridge, Stephen Douglas, and John Bell. In this election Abraham won. which caused a split between the north and the south over slavery. -

Union Blockade of Georgia
This plan is often called the "Anaconda Plan". The plan was to blockade all the southern ports to prevent the south from getting their much needed supplies. -
Emancipation
The emancipation only freed the slaves,It didn't abolish slavery. This proclamation only applied to the states that were in act of rebellion not the slave-holding border states or to areas of Confederate states already under Union control at the time. -
Battle of Chickamauga
This battle was fought between U.S and the Confederate Forces. It was the first major battle fought in Georgia. This was a major southern victory and it was the largest union defeat. -

This was a prisoner of war camp in Georgia. This camo had horrible conditions and 13,500 troops died from starvation, diseases, exposure, and hangings. The prisoners could get out on one condition, they had to serve for the confederate army. -

Sherman fought to capture Atlanta because all the railroads ending at Atlanta. The South lost the ability to ship goods by a trains. -

Sherman left Atlanta and marched his troops through Georgia destroying houses, cities, railroads, and farm land. -
Thirteenth Amendment
There were two bills introduced to the House and Senate making similar proposals to abolish slavery.The Senate passed the amendment, however the house didn't so they had to be reintroduced to it. They passed it on January 31, 1865 and it was soon ratified by the states. -
Freedman's Bureau
This was a government set up to help newly freed slaves. It was also poorly funded. this provided them education,food, and other necessities they needed. -
Ku Klux Klan Formed
The first Klan was Formed on 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee. It spread-ed across the south and they were trying to get the whites to have supremacy again. It slowly declined after the first World war. -
John Ross
John Ross was the principal chief of the Cherokee nation. He was the son of Cherokee woman and a Scottish-man. He's important to Georgia history because he was involved with the relocation of the Indian territory and the American Civil war. -
Fourteenth Amendment
This Amendment basically forbidden the state's from taking your basic rights from the citizens. -
Fifteenth Amendment
The fifteenth amendment basically says the right of citizens voting should not be denied because of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Then it says that the Congress should have the power to enforce this .
