Oglethorpe was a visionary, social reformer, and a military leader. He led the expedition to Georgia and founded Savannah. He befriended the Yamacraw Indians. -
Charter of 1732
The Charter of 1732 gave the colonist the right to own and govern Georgia and to act as a buffer to South Carolina. King George II issued the charter. The colony was named Georgia in honor of King George. -
Salzburgers Arrive
King George II offered 300 Sulzburgers refuge in Georgia, which Pastor Johnn Bolzius accepted. They established the first Sunday school, the first orphanage, and built the water-driven Grist Mill in Georgia. They founded the town Ebenezer, which is now Effingham Country. -
Highland Scots Arrive
The Highland Scots sailed on the Prince of Wales to Georgia. They were solders and provided a buffer between Georgia and the Spanish in Florida. -

Constitutional Convention
It took place in the Pennsylvania State House. The purpose of the convention was to decide how America was going to be governed. -
Georgia Ratifies Constitution
George Washington chaired the constitution. 55 delegates made a new governing system which included 3 small branches. In Philadelphia Georgia elected 6 delegates to be in the Constitutional Convention, only 2 signed the final document. -
Austin Dabney
Austin was a slave until he joined the Georgia military and he fought during the Revolutionary war. He was granted freedom because of services. He was believed to be the only African American solder to fight in the Battle of Kettle Creek.
