The faster the cotton needed to be picked the more slaves needed. -

In 1850 california's government did not allow slavery. It became a free state. The south had to get something out of this to so they got the fugitive slave law. That is compromise in the compromise of 1850. -

The Fugitive Slave Law was a law that said all run away slaves must be brought back to their owners. This law was a part of the compramise of 1850 January 29 , 1850. -
Kanas-Newbraska act of 1854
KAnas and Newbraska were organized into territories. A law was passed to allow citizen of the state to decide whether they will be free states or slave states. People from all over the u.s. rushed down to vote. This started a fight and was called "bleeding Kanas". -
Dred scott
Dred scot was a slave who's owner moved to free state. He thought sense he was in a free state he should be free. At first he couldn't apply his case because he was not citizen. A white man applied his case for him. In the end it was sent the supreme court. They said he was property and had to go whereever his owner did. This made the poeple in the north angry because slavery was coming to the north. -

The Leo Frank case was a case in which Lep frank was convicted of murder. He was accused of killing Mary Phagan. We do not know if he really did it or not. He was sentenced to life in prison. He was kidnapped and hung. -

The yazoo land was when privote land companies bribed the legislature to make a law to sellthem the land. It was sold to them for a penny an acre. People heard about it and voted out the legislature office. The federail government was sued by the people who bought land from the private land companies. Georgia lost what is now mississippi and alabama. THat is why G.A. is the shape it is now. -
