"According to Fijian legend, the great chief Lutunasobasoba led his people across the seas to the new land of Fiji." -
1643
On accident Europeans discovered the Fiji group.
The first of these discoveries were made by the Dutch explorer in 1643. His name was Abel Tasman an English navigator. -
1774
Captain James Cook sailed through Fiji in 1774, and made further exploration in the 18th century. -
1789
A lot of the credit for discovering the Island went to Captain William Bligh who sailed through Fiji in 1789 -
1854
Canabalism was practiced in Fiji but When Ratu Seru Cakobau ( their leader) accepted Christianity in 1854, the rest of the country soon followed and tribal warfare came to an end. -

Fiji became very attractive to people because of the belief that the British were going to tame it. -

By 1870 the European population numbered more than 2000 -

The first Europeans to like among the Fijians were shipwrecked sailors, convicts, and missionaries in the 19th century. -
1916
The indentured system was abolished so many fijians made independant farms and farmed their own suger and vegitables. -
20th century
