Generations of computers

By HGH777
  • Period: to

    First generation

The first generation of computers were Vacuum tube technology uynreliable, only supported machine language, very costly, they generated lot of heat and were very big.
  • Period: to

    Second generation

The second generation of computers used transistors, and were reliable in comparison to first generation computers. They were smaller and generated less heat as compared to first generation computers. They were very expensive and they had supported machine and assembly languages
  • Period: to

    Third generation

Computers of the third generation used IC, had smaller size, generated less heat and were faster. They needed lesser maintenance but they were still costly
  • Period: to

    Fourth generation

Computers of the fourth generation were very cheap, portable and reliable, they had very small size. The concept of internet was introduced and new great developments in the fields of networks.
  • Period: to

    Fifth generation

In the fifth generation computers true artificial intelligence and the natural language processing were developed.
It was more user friendly interfaces with multimedia features.
  • Period: to

    Sixth generation

The computers opf the sixth generation are able to simulate many decision making functions to improve the lives and fun of human.
    Their new characteristics are:
    Multi tasking us easily performed.
    High resolution and effective graphics.
Artificial intelligence has also assisted in the development of Voice
