Alien and Sedition Acts
The Alien and Sedition Acts permit the President to deport any foreigner deemed to be dangerous. A revised Naturalization Act imposes a 14-year residency requirement for prospective citizens. -
Importation of slaves
The Slave trade was banned in the United States in January of 1808. This effected the way states would interact with each other in the future and spurred violent actions in government. -
Irish Potato Famine
The Irish Potato famine took place in the 1840s ans spurred a huge influx of immigrants from the European countries and allowed for the building and enhancement of immigrant checkpoints on the east coast. -
California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush spurred immigration from the Asian countries of the west, especially China. Not only this, but it spurred migration of current Americans to head to the California coast in search for the gold lottery. -
Naturalization Act
Limited American citizenship to whites and African Americans and excluding those of Asian descent. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
This act excluded the Chinese people within a ten year period as the government noted that they were "a danger to society".If found crossing, the chinese people faced imprisonmnet and deportation. -
Alien Contract Labor Law
Prohibited the importation of any foreigners into the United States that were under contract to do any service or labor work. There were certain execptions made for workman who could [rove that they were in the states for domestic service or were establishing a new trade or industry. -
Ellis Island
Ellis Island opens and would service nearly 12 million immigrants over teh course of 30 years. This would be the most major processing center for immigrants in the United States. -
Anarchist Exlusion Act
It allows government to bar who comes into the country solely based on the persons political stance or opinion. -
Expatriation Act
The Expatriation Act made it illegal for an American women to marry a foreign national man. This act would later be repealed except for still including Chinese men as those who an American women could not marry. -
World War II
The World War II era spurred a mass migrationof passionate immigrants who wanted to be free from the turmpil of their homeland.This war also included negatice effecgts for some Americans within the United States. -
War Brides Act
The war brides act made it legal for women who were foreigners to the states who married a member of the U.S. armed forces to become citizen. -
Operation Wetback
Allows the dportation of any Mexican worker to Mexico if they are undocumented. -
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
This set the restriction/quota of people entering the country at 170,000 people per year and put a focus on keeping families together throughout the immigration process. -
The Redress Act
Gives $20,000 to the survivors of the Japanese internment camp survivors of World War II.
