  Stonewall Riots - The Stonewall Riots were the catalyst for the LGBT movements.
 - Newyork lawas prohibited homosexuality in public.
 - Group of gay customers at a gay bar in Greenwich Village called the Stonewall Inn and there took a stand and a riot broke out.
 - Soon after the riots, the Gay Liberation Front was formed by 37 men and women.
 - Aligned themselves with other organizations like Black Panther.

 Pre-1970: Being homosexual was considered to be a mental illness.
 1970: Gay rights activists began to speak out and protest about this classification made by the American Psychiatric Association.
 1974: The APA took homosexuality off the medical condition list of the seventh edition of the DSM-II.

 Military policy
 1993 Clinton: This said that if you were a homosexual man or women in the military you were still allowed to be in the armed forces, but you weren't allowed to declare your sexual orientation publicly.
 2011 Obama: After a lot of debate between different people and political figures, Obama repealed the "don't ask, don't tell" on September 20th 2011.

 - Created a federal definition of marriage.

 - Their marriage was recognized by New York state law.

  Lawrence V. Texas Court Case- Illinois: First state to remove sodomy laws from its Criminal Code
 - Criminalized "Open Lewdness"
 - Laurence and Garner were two gay men charged for same sex, sexual actions.
 - Challenged the statue as a violation of the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment
 - Court rejected the constitutional arguments and affirmed convictions.

 1924 Society for Human Rights: First group to fight for equal civil rights of homosexuals.
 1970: The first gay pride parades took place in three major cities
 (Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles)
 1974: Homosexuality is no longer declared a mental disorder by the APA.
 1980: The Democratic party announced its support for gay rights.
 2000: Vermont becomes the first state to legally allow civil unions
