    When I started existing.
  • Mario 64

I don't remember the exact date, but when my family got a Wii console it was my introduction to the world of video games. Mario 64 was my favourite game to play despite the eels in the water levels absolutely terrifying me. I enjoyed exploring the castle and travelling to all the different level areas though admittedly never made it past the first room. Nintendo 1996, Mario 64, video game, Wii, Nintendo
  • Poptropica

Despite the decline of Poptropica content (locking everything behind a paywall) it holds a special place in my heart. This game got me through school, from primary to high school, when the boredom struck. I remember being obsessed with it in primary school and it made a comeback during late middle school when my friends and I were slacking off in class. It's not very interesting for older audiences but it was fun. Jeff Kinney Group 2007, Poptropica, video game, Web browser, StoryArc Media
  • Can Your Pet?

Can Your Pet? is a pretty simple and quick game, but it sure leaves an impact. I was about ten when I discovered it and it was my first introduction to the horror genre of games, as while it looks cute and fun the twist is that the pet you spent time raising gets slaughtered and canned. Fun :,) GameAde 2010, Can Your Pet?, video game, PC, GameAde
  • Life Is Strange

I've only played a couple of LIS games, with this one being the first, but I really fell in love with the story and the world they created. Making choices throughout the whole game, trying to choose the best ones for everyone, only to reach the ultimate choice at the end of the game and feel a complete sense of hopelessness and defeat was as brilliant as it was devastating. Dontnod Entertainment 2015, Life Is Strange, video game, Xbox, Square Enix
  • Breath Of The Wild

BOTW is one of my favourite games because of the beautiful environments, lovable characters and the open world element. I love open world games because they allow for so much exploration and I enjoyed spending time in each of the villages, so much so that I spent 200 hours on the game before I even entered Hyrule castle. Nintendo 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, video game, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo
  • Stanley Parable

Stanley Parable was the first game I played that used satire and meta dialogue as part of the narrative. A game where trying to not play the game was actually the game was an absurd but delightful premise. Disobeying the narrator was thrilling and was the first time the narrator of a game was an integral part of the gameplay. I've never played another game quite like Stanley Parable. Davey Wreden, William Pugh 2013, Stanley Parable, video game, PC, Galactic Cafe
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I really like the Assassin's Creed franchise as a whole but Odyssey is my favourite of the games for a few reasons. The story was good, the gameplay felt much better than previous games like Origins (I hate that one) and there's a choice of which main character you want to play as (male or female basically). Ubisoft Quebec 2018, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, video game, Xbox One, Ubisoft
  • Valorant

I don't really care about Valorant as a game, but it did take up a lot of my life at the start of uni, as it was how I kept in contact with my friends after high school. I was introduced to the game by a friend and it became an almost daily thing at the end of the day to hang out with everyone, so it does hold a special place in my heart. Riot Games 2020, Valorant, video game, PC, Riot Games
