    The beginning of Video Games
    In 1952 British professor A.S. Douglas created OXO also commonly known as tic-tac-toe in the US and Noughts and crosses in the UK. This was created as part of his doctoral dissertation at the University of Cambridge.

    Although in 1952 A.S Douglas made OXO the first video game is credited to William Higinbotham who made Pong in 1958. Pong is a game similar to tennis where you hit a white ball across the screen.
  • First gaming console

    The first ever gaming console was the Odyssey created in 1972 manufactured by Magnavox. developed by Ralph Baer, a German engineer, the odyssey was a small device with a keyboard looking panel and two joysticks.

    In 1983 the video game industry experienced a big crash due to multiple factors. One of these factors was because of an oversaturated game console market and a large amount of low quality games. The crash led to many companies declaring bankruptcy.

    Nintendo
    Nintendo, a Japanese company released a bunch of important titles that helped revive the video game industry such as Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda.

    Nintendo releases the Game Boy which was a handheld device that brought many new faces to gaming in a new way. The game boy was the foundation for many future Nintendo products including the DS.
  • The Console Wars

    The Console Wars
    To this day the console wars have raged on between PlayStation and Xbox. In the past there have been a few console wars including the one in 1989. The Sega Genesis vs. The Nintendo NES. The Genesis failed to compete in the war with the NES console and the genesis was forgotten.

    With a technological leap in the computer industry many games started to explore the three dimensional world. Nintendo released the Nintendo 64 in 1995 making 3D games possible. Sony later released the PlayStation which blew everything else out of the water.
  • The Modern Age

    The Modern Age
    In 2005 - 2006 The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and The Wii came out. These consoles were home to many games that experimented new ideas. The Wii used motion sensor remotes that made gaming more active than it ever had before. I remember playing on all 3 consoles when I was a kid.
  • Virtual Reality

    In 2016 The Vive Virtual reality headset was released by HTC. It was one of the first consumer VR headsets. Virtual reality changes the way how people game play games. You can interact with objects from a game as if you were actually there. There is so much stuff you can do with VR and I am looking forward to what is to come in the future from VR.
