The first video game
The first video game was invented. Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle R. Mann patented the Cathode-Ray Tube Amusement Device. Although it was simple and not visualy impressing as today games, with it plastic overlays on the television, it was the first documented video game. (Brookhaven National Laboratory, n.d.)

Ralph H. Baer invents the "Magnavox Odyssey"
Some say that Atari invented the first home console, but Ralph H. Baer invented his home console, "Magnavox Odyssey", three years before Atari. This allowed people to finally experince playing video games at home rather than at the arcade. Although it only came with one game, "ping-pong", people could place plastic overlay on their teleivson to play different game.(Boyer, 2001)

Alexey Pajitnov created "Tetris"
Alexey Pajitnov created "Tetris" from a very simple design, using symbols to make shapes. The game wasn't more then filling up a row and watching it disappear. people soon became addicted to it wanting to play it over and over. This lead to people growing a love for puzzle games. The game grew so much that it is on display at New York City's Museum of Modern Art. (Peckham, 2014) -
Shigeru Miyamoto creates "Super Mario Brothers"
After the the video game consoles in 1983, video game consoles looked like it did not have a bright future. Nintendo with the creative help of Shigeru Miyamoto, made "Super Mario Brothers" for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This would become one of the most played games in the world. The sucess of the game resulted in the rebounced of the home video game consles.(Cohen, n.d.) -
The first 3-D game engine was released
The first 3D game engine, "Space Rouge", was release in 1989. The first of it kind, Space rouge engine allowed developers to insert in assests and create scprited game play. This would be used for a few more games before it would be later replaced by the Doom engine. (Norman, 2009)

Sid Meier creates the "Civilization" Game series
With simply games in the start of P.C. games, Sid Meier and co founder Bruce Shelly create "Civilization." This was a game that everyone was waiting for. It contained a complex tech tree, a ton of units, and a great strategy game. They would contiue to make several more games in the series that people would love. This game has been named as many peoples top games of all time. (Goodfellow, 2006) -
The first "first person shooter"
n 1992, Wolfenstien 3D was create by Id software. This was the first "first person shooter", changing the way that people play video games. This allowed the player to experince the game from the eyes of the character for a more personal feeling during the game. (Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, 2014) -
"Myst" is release, providing a take on puzzle games.
The game "Myst" become one of the must play games for die hard P.C. gamers. It was new style of puzzle games. It showed off great still images with simple animations. As the player points and clicks the will discover more secerts of the island. (Garamoth, 2010) -
Columbine shooting is tied to video games
The massacure of Columbine high school was a big tragedy for the United States. An investigation after the event found that the murders in the event used the game "Doom" to plan the event. This lead to a big media outcry to ban violent video games, this of course did not work. (Goldstein, 2015) -
9/11 affects video games
After the events of 9/11, many video games change past games and future games. Games such as "Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2" and "Deus Ex" removed the world trade center form the game and box art. The war following 9/11 also provided game designs a new setting for war games. (Lane, 2011) -
Cliff Bleszinski creates the "Gears of War" Series
Cliff Bleszinski designed "Gears of War" on the Xbox 360. This game showed off the power of what next generation games consoles with high definiton rendering. It used new rending otions such as light blooming. That game still holds up with todays standards. (McLaughlin, 2011) -
"Portal" is release and changes puzzle games
Valve software releases "Portal" in the Orange Box game pack. This game gave a new look on platform puzzle games. Instead of the traditional platform puzzle games, you would walk/run and jump to solve the puzzle, but in portal, you make holes in walls that are connected to solve the game. This would make people think harder at trying to solve puzzles while difying physics.(GamePro-Staff, 2009) -
"Titanfall" uses Mircosoft's Cloud
The game "Titanfall" uses Mircosoft's Cloud to increase the processing power of the Xbox One. This allowed the game to render more assests in the game beyond the limit of the console. This also help create a more beautiful game becuase of the offload of the rending to the cloud. (Seppala, 2015)
