  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    The Stono Rebellion started in South Carolina in September 1739. This rebellion was led by Jemmy who was a literate slave. Jemmy was from Kingdom of Kongo and his similar background with other slaves made it easier for me to collaborate with other slaves to form a coalition against white colonists. Some were killed while others were sold. As a result to this rebellion, Negro Act of 1740 was passed.

  • New York Conspiracy Trials

    New York Conspiracy Trials
    When 13 fires broke out in New York City, nervous British wanted to blame somebody. The Stono Rebellion was just few years apart. The government was convinced that the slaves were the dangers to the society. (1) In William Byrd's secret diary, his wife burned little Jenny with hot iron. This is just another way how the colonists treated slaves even against their will.
    1. 13 black men were burned and 4 white men were hanged.

  • Stamp Act and Quartering Act

    Stamp Act and Quartering Act
    When Great Britain emerged as a winner from the French-Indian War, it needs money to raise revenue to compensate from their debts. In return, they implemented Stamp Act. (2) Quartering Act was their solution for the expenses of the British troops stationed in the colonists. Due to the implementation of these acts, it triggered the protest against the British Empire.
    2. Stamp Act is a direct tax on the colonists.

  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    Sons of Liberty was formed in 1765. The members were mostly small time merchants who opposed the Stamp Act. (3) They burned the effigy of Oliver, Massachusetts Distributor of Stamp. The Sons of Liberty used newspaper to make announcements for merchants like William Jackson, who refused to sign agreement, to boycott his store.
    3. They also burned the house of Lt. Gov. Thomas Hutchinson, a supporter of the parliament.

  • Daughters of Liberty

    Daughters of Liberty
    The Daughters of Liberty boycotted British products. In the "Address to the ladies" versed from The Boston Post-Boy and Advertiser, it encourages ladies to stop buying British tea and British lines. (4) They encouraged all others to used local herbs and teas and wear their own linens. Some merchants were blacklisted due to their refusal to cooperate with Sons of Liberty.
    4. They also encouraged women to make their own dresses.

  • American Revolutionary War

    American Revolutionary War
    The Stamp Act triggered the Revolutionary War. Sons of Liberty and Daughters of Liberty were formed in protest to the British Monarchy. The colonists wanted changed from Stono Rebellion to New York Conspiracy Trial. So much had happened that they wanted to break free from the British. The revolution was a great success because the colonists came together as one regardless of their social and economic background.

  • The Bill of Rights

    The Bill of Rights
    At long last! We have the Bill of Rights to protect us. It is also stated that we, the people, have the right to assemble and petition the government for grievances. Now we have rights to a speedy trial by impartial jury in relation to New York Conspiracy Trail and Stono Rebellion,where they burned people. In contradiction to Quartering Act, there is amendment 3.
